Blogger Steve Wansleeben is seeking to be elected to Vancouver City Council this November. He supports keeping St. Paul's Hospital right where it is and that I like.
The matter will end up before Vancouver City Council before Providence can move much further down the road to moving out of the Westend. We will need a council that will tell Providence no. The pressure will be immense at that decision time. Not only will Providence have the Vancouver Health Authority onside, they will have the BC Liberal cabinet onside.
It won't matter too much if it gets that far. No city council in BC has stopped the BC Liberal government from doing what they want these days!
The best plan of attack to protect this hospital lies in preventing Providence Health Care from getting to point of saying that's it, we're moving.
The way I see this, Mayencourt better have pictures of Health Minister Abbott or Finance Minister Taylor smokin a doobie south of the border. This project appears to have the support albeit quiet, of the provincial government. Why, they can smell a successful 3 Pee project. There will be no government money spent on construction of any public health facility. We will instead sign a 30 year tenant leases.
Imagine turning a province of owners into renters. Didn't your parents say renting was throwing good money away.
If you are keen to save St. Paul's Hospital go to: Save St. Paul's Coalition.
