Luther Vandross
Luther went to the grave living his secret. His family and many in the black community would have liked it kept that way. Immensely talented Luther Vandross was more than the larger world knew, those that knew prefered to keep it off the agenda.
Hey we all know a gay black guy couldn't sing like that. He couldn't make the world want to dance, to cry, to love...
The gay community knew he was one of us. We always wanted him to share this. He couldn't quite get it done.
The issue here is not really that Luther choose to remain in a closet, the issue here is that he felt he couldn't be successful, wouldn't be able to make it being black and gay.
